An action-packed day in Newmarket awaited the Duchess of Cornwall on Wednesday. She first visited Newmarket Academy, taking a whirlwind tour of the school to see as much of the Academy’s offerings as possible.

Camilla – wearing one of her favourite outfits, a purple tartan skirt and blazer – stopped by the library, kitchens and Animal Welfare Centre, speaking with students in all areas. The Duchess helped them ice some cupcakes before meeting a couple of creatures that are irregular on royal engagements – a chameleon, and a hamster coincidentally named Camilla.

Afterwards, it was over to Rowley Mile Racecourse for the official unveiling of a statue of King Charles II, who was instrumental in making the racecourse the ‘Home of Horseracing’. The Duchess was also given a tour of the stables, where she was introduced to Frankel, who is described as a “wonder horse” as he is 14-0 in the races he has ran.
