Camilla’s Wash Bag Project Goes Nation-Wide
An initiative founded by the Duchess of Cornwall to provide essential products to victims of rape and sexual abuse has been launched nationwide on Tuesday, as the Duchess made a visit to the headquarters of Boots UK in Nottingham.
Camilla, who made her first visit to a Rape Crisis and Sexual Assault Referral Centre in 2009, met with the 100 volunteers who spent days packing 12,000 wash bags to be delivered to the 49 RCSARCs around the United Kingdom. Given to sexual assault victims after they have undergone a forensic examination, the wash bags contain products including toothpaste, shower gels, deodorant and make-up.
“I wanted to find a practical way of helping women, girls and men who have been left traumatised through no fault of their own to have some comfort,” the Duchess said in her speech at the event, also thanking Boots UK for the incredible support.
The Duchess for over five years has been a strong advocate for providing assistance to sexual assault victims.
