A Father-Son Engagement For Charles & Harry As They Present Medals To Gurkha Soldiers

The Prince of Wales enjoyed a duo engagement with his younger son, Prince Harry, today as they presented operational service medals to soldiers from the 2nd Battalion The Royal Gurkha Rifles.

Taking place in Buckingham Palace’s ballroom, the two Princes presented 154 soldiers with one of two service medals (either the Afghanistan Operational Service Medal, or the Accumulated Campaign Service Medal for those who already had the former) to mark their return from duty on Operation Toral, which saw them spend eight months in Afghanistan assisting to train Afghan security forces. Afterwards, Charles and Harry spent time with the Gurkha soldiers and their families at a reception.

Prince Charles has been the Colonel-in-Chief of The Royal Gurkha Rifles for forty years. Prince Harry also has a strong connection with the regiment, having served with Gurkha soldiers, who hail from Nepal, during his 2007 tour of Afghanistan.
