A Royal Opening For The New Södertälje Hospital

Princess Sofia of Sweden officially opened the New Södertälje Hospital in Stockholm on March 9.

After a welcoming by the president of the hospital, the opening ceremony took place with music performed by the Cornea brass quintet from the Södertälje Culture School. The Princess gave a speech to conclude the ceremony, saying that the Stockholm region was growing each year and that the hospital was an “important piece of the puzzle” to bring together the access to the latest developments in technology and medical research and the people of Sweden.

“I hope that these modern facilities will give all of you who work here even better conditions to perform your important task – to provide safe and accessible emergency care to a growing population,” she finished before declaring the hospital open.

Princess Sofia, who was wearing a simple outfit comprising of a white and black polka dot blouse and black trousers, was then given a tour of the hospital, seeing the emergency department, radiology unit, maternity ward and operating theatres. The hospital, which was first opened in 1907, is now one of the most modern hospitals in Sweden thanks to the extensive remodelling and construction is has undergone in recent years.
