She already has a pair of spider brooches, as well as several other creatures, in her vast jewellery collection, but Queen Máxima clearly did not think those were enough when she saw today’s brooch in the jeweller’s cabinet.

The Queen wore the black enamel insect brooch which is studded with gemstones and framed in gold on the shoulder of her bronze dress with a black tree branch print across the entire fabric. Queen Máxima was visiting Koppert Cress, an organisation that specialises in “a variety of edible plants and flowers” which they supply to chefs, restaurants and hotels around the country and Europe.

Kopper Cress was the 2016 winner of the Koning Willem I Plaque for Sustainable Entrepreneurship, presented by the Koning Willem I Foundation that Queen Máxima is honorary president of.

Máxima was given a tour of the facilities, being informed about the testing process for edible products, and also joined in on a taste class the organisation gives to primary school students each week to teach them about healthy eating.
