Prince William Launches Award For School Children During Visit to Wales School

The Duke of Cambridge visited the Llanfoist Fawr Primary School in Wales today to officially launch the Prince William Award, an initiative for children aged 6-14 to help build their “resilience, confidence and good character”.

William joined in with pupils participating in activities set up by the Award to boost their skills in different ways, based on their age group. With the ‘Pioneer’ group (ages 6-8), the Prince helped make towers from straws and marshmallows to develop teamwork skills. With the ‘Explorer’ group (ages 8-11), he joined them in a balancing task; before joining the ‘Trailblazers’ (ages 11-14) for the difficult task of putting together a tent – whilst blindfolded!

The award is held by SkillForce UK, of which William became patron in 2009, and provides schoolchildren with life skills taught by ex-servicemen and women. It is being rolled out across British schools from September after being trialled as a pilot scheme for a year.
