Duchess of Cambridge Opens New Ronald McDonald House in London

The Duchess of Cambridge has this morning opened a new Ronald McDonald House Charities accommodation facility nearby the Evelina London Children’s Hospital.

After being welcomed with a bouquet of red, white and yellow roses from 8-year-old Isabelle, whose brother is currently a patient at the hospital, Catherine was given a tour of the new House that provides families of ill children the ability to stay close by while they are receiving treatment. She spoke with a number of such families, including the parents of four-month-old baby Jack, who was born with half a heart and has had a number of major operations at the hospital.

In the House’s kitchen, the Duchess – who was wearing a blue tweed skirt suit interwoven with silver thread from Rebecca Taylor – watched as children decorated pancakes to celebrate Shrove Tuesday, while others did crafts. “What is your favourite cartoon?” she asked 4-year-old James (whose brother was born 17 weeks premature six weeks ago) as he coloured, receiving an enthusiastic response of “Lighting McQueen!”

The Ronald McDonald House Evelina anticipates it will provide accommodation to 975 families each year.
