The Duchess of Cornwall Helps To Welcome Soldiers Returning From Iraq
On Monday February 27 at the Normandy Barracks in Aldershot, the Duchess of Cornwall helped military families officially welcome home soldiers from the 4th Battalion The Rifles after a four-month deployment to Iraq.
The Duchess, who is the Royal Colonel of the regiment, inspected the troops during a muster parade, before addressing the crowd. “In the most difficult circumstances you have shown your usual skill and spirit, no matter what the circumstances,” Camilla said to the troops.
Later on during a reception, the Duchess spent time with family members of the regiment soldiers deployed. In her earlier speech, she had praised their support of their deployed families, “Your support has been vital over these past months, you have kept the home fires burning despite the constant concern for those whom you love so dearly.”
The regiment served in Iraq as part of Operation Shader, training Iraqi forces and providing security to Camp Havoc at Al Asad Air Base.
