The Duchess of Cupcakes: Camilla Hosts Reception At Clarence House
The Duchess of Cornwall today was joined by celebrity chefs Jamie Oliver and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall at Clarence House where they gave a cupcake demonstration in the kitchen ahead of a reception to launch The Great Get Together.
Decorating cupcakes in Union Jack cases with butter cream frosting, Camilla earned a laugh from the two chefs when she accidentally squirted some frosting on to Fearnley-Whittingstall’s tie – which he promptly licked off instead of waiting for a tea towel to be produced! “Icing has never quite been my forte,” the Duchess confessed.
Afterwards, the trio attended a reception to officially launch the initiative, which is a collaboration between The Big Lunch, of which the Duchess is patron, and the Jo Cox Foundation to “encourage people to get together with their neighbours one weekend in June to celebrate Britain’s diverse communities.” They were joined by Brendan Cox, the widower of British MP Jo Cox who was murdered last year, and is the driving force behind the Great Get Together.
Camilla said a few brief words during the reception, praising the work of everyone involved and saying that she “hopes and knows that wherever Jo is now she would be looking down proudly and seeing what a wonderful job you are doing.”
