Queen Sofia Awarded ‘Circle of the Lyceum’ Gold Medal

Queen Sofia was tonight presented with the gold medal of the Circle of the Lyceum for her support of the arts and music during a ceremony at Barcelona’s Great Theater of the Lyceum.

The Queen gave a speech at the event, where she said she was incredibly honoured to receive the award and to have been able to “support the various activities aimed at promoting the reconstruction of this Great Theatre” after it was destroyed by fire in 1994.

She also praised the Lyceum’s work in preserving the heritage of the theatre through its “traditional commitment to music and culture”.
