Crown Prince Naruhito Opens Winter Games

The 2017 Asian Winter Games have been officially opened in a ceremony attended by His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Naruhito.

The event took place in the Sapporo Dome stadium in the city of Sapporo, Hokkaido – a place well known for it’s winter sports having hosted the Winter Olympics back in 1972. The city of Obihiro will co-host the 64 sporting events taking place over the next week before the closing ceremony on February 26th.

The Crown Prince declared the Games open on behalf of his father, Emperor Akishino.
