King Felipe & Queen Letizia Attend Telefónica Foundation Project
At the Telefónica Building in Madrid today, the King and Queen of Spain attended the closure of the Telefónica Foundation’s research project into the economic value of the Spanish language.
The purpose of the research project, which has been undertaken by the Foundation for ten years, was to “quantify economically the cultural value of having our language spoken by 500 million people”.
King Felipe gave a speech at the closing event, in which he praised the Foundation’s insight in establishing the research project on this topic, as the language is “an extraordinary source of economic wealth…real, tangible…present and future….a raw material endowed with an undoubted virtue: the more it is used and shared, the more it grows in quantity and the more its economic value increases.”
