New Portraits Released To Mark Princess Astrid’s 85th Birthday

The Norwegian Royal Court has released two new photographs of Princess Astrid, Mrs Ferner to celebrate her 85th birthday on Sunday.

Taken at by Sven Gj. Gjeruldsen at the Royal Palace in Oslo, the photos show the Princess with her pet dog and in full gala attire in front of a portrait of her late mother, Crown Princess Märtha.

Princess Astrid was born on February 12, 1932 as the second child of the then Crown Prince Olav and Crown Princess Märtha of Norway. She lived in exile in the US during World War Two, before studying at Oxford University. The Princess married Johan Martin Ferner in 1961, they had five children.
