The King of Jordan has been in Washington, D.C. this week, meeting with various Congress members, officials and organisations. On his last day in the US, the King had a brief meeting with the new US President, Donald Trump, at the National Prayer Breakfast at the Hilton International. He is the first monarch, and Arab leader, to meet President Trump.

King Abdullah and President Trump discussed the relationship between Jordan and the United States, with the President confirming a commitment to “strengthen the security and economic partnership” between the two countries. The White House also stated a mention was made during the meeting of “the King returning to Washington for an official visit in the near future”.

Queen Rania accompanied her husband to the event, where he also delivered a speech that spoke of the elements of faith and spirituality that bind all religions together: “The Grace of God will help to find solutions to issues in need of being addressed across the world…those common ideals bring us all together today. Because they are the foundations of every religion; whether we bow in a mosque, kneel in a church, pray in a temple, or simply engage in a selfless act of kindness, we are joined in faith.”
