Statue of Diana To Be Erected At Kensington Palace

Kensington Palace has announced that a statue of the late Diana, Princess of Wales is to be erected in the public gardens of the Palace, at the behest of her two sons, the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

“Our mother touched so many lives. We hope the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on her life and her legacy,” the two Princes said in a statement.

A committee has been selected to privately raise funds and commission a sculptor and design for the statue, in conjunction with Historic Royal Palaces on its placement with the grounds. Heading the committee is Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, the former private secretary of the Princes, while Diana’s sister, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, and her friend Julia Samuel sit on the committee.

It is hoped the statue will be completed for an unveiling by the end of 2017.

This August will mark twenty years since the Princess’s death in a Paris car accident.
