The event took place at the Schloss Biebrich Palace in the city of Wiesbaden in central western Germany which was organized by the Deutsche Bundesbank and the Federal Ministry of Finance.
During her speech Queen Maxima stated that thanks to work made by financial partners, the collaborations between countries and the financial institutions such as the SME finance, “financial inclusion has advanced dramatically around the world. Between 2011 and 2014, 700 million more adults gained access to a financial account, this is a 20 percent increase.”

Despite these positive results, the Queen added that still more than 40% of the world’s adults are escluded from the financial system and most of these people live in in developing countries and in rural areas. To increase the financial inclusion it is important, for Queen Maxima, the role of digital finance that “consists of financial services provided through technology such as mobile phones, cards and the internet.” Queen Maxima in her speech also thanked Germany for its leadership on the financial inclusion agenda and the Deutsche Bundesbank for having organized the conference.
