Dutch King and Queen Host New Year Reception
At the Royal Palace of Amsterdam today, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima hosted the first of the two traditional New Year receptions.
This reception saw “several hundred guests” from all corners of Dutch society attend and meet the monarchs. A number of primary and secondary school teachers and education administrators were invited on the specific request of the King. He said in his speech during the reception that “life is learning and learning is life” and that much is expected from teachers by parents and society as a whole: “Your work involves more than just imparting knowledge and skills to the next generation…I think I speak for almost all parents, as I say, thank you for your commitment and passion.”
Also attending the reception were Princess Beatrix, Princess Margriet and Professor Pieter van Vollenhoven.
