Diana’s Letters Sell For Over Five Times The Estimate
The Cheffins auction house in Cambridgeshire has sold six letters handwritten by Diana, Princess of Wales in an auction lot full of royal memorabilia, for over five times the estimate.
Coming from the estate of Cyril Dickman, who was chief palace steward and worked for the Royal Family for over 50 years beginning during World War Two, the letters fetched £15,100, well above the estimated £2,300-£3,600. In one letter from September 1984, Princess Diana speaks of Prince William’s adoration of his newborn brother, while another from October 1992 tells of Prince Harry “constantly [being] in trouble!” at boarding school.
Also in the lot were letters from Queen Elizabeth, as well as Christmas cards and photographs from various family members, and a boxed slice of the Queen’s wedding cake.
