Danes Attend New Year’s Court For Order of The Elephant
The grandest event in calendar of official Denmark took place this evening in Copenhagen, the annual New Year’s Court for members of the Order of the Elephant (Denmark’s highest honour), the Danish government and the Royal Court.
The members were received by Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik at Christian VII’s Palace in Amalienborg, before a banquet took place attended also by the Crown Prince and Princess, and Prince Joachim and Princess Marie as they do each year. The guests feasted on pheasant consommé, a saddle of lamb with various vegetables, and dessert of cheese tart and kumquat cake. The traditional Rosenborg wine, dating back to Christian IV in the late 1500s, was also served during the banquet.
Queen Margrethe repeated a blue evening gown, with the family’s pearl parure; while Crown Princess Mary wore a gold Jesper Hovring gown that was debuted in an official portrait released last year, with a fuchsia cape and her diamond and ruby parure. Princess Marie donned a new bronze-flecked black gown from Ole Yde, with her diamond floral tiara.
