Camilla Continues Christmas Tradition Inviting Children To Decorate Clarence House Tree
For the eighth year, the Duchess of Cornwall has invited children supported by one of her patronages – the Helen & Douglas House – to Clarence House to decorate the building’s Christmas tree.
The five children from Helen & Douglas House, which provides support to children with life-shortening illnesses offering them respite care, were joined by five children supported by Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.
They helped the Duchess – wearing a lovely emerald green dress with a ruffle around the waist from Bruce Oldfield – decorate the fir tree with ornaments, cookies and candy canes; before sitting down for a lunch of sausages and mashed potatoes.
“It’s a bit surreal to be here…she [daughter Neive] was really excited about coming,” one of the mothers said after the event, where a number of the children were captivated by the sight of a soldier in full ceremonial uniform – the Prince of Wales’s assistant equerry, Captain Matthew Wright of the Welsh Guards, who helped the youngsters try on his bearskin.
