King Carl Gustaf Presents 2016 Nobel Prizes

The 2016 Nobel Prizes were presented this evening at Stockholm’s Concert Hall by King Carl XVI Gustaf.

In front of the Royal Family, the Nobel Committee and hundreds of esteemed guests, the King presented the Nobel Prize in Physics to David J. Thouless, F. Duncan M. Haldane and Michael Kosterlitz; in Chemistry to Jean-Pierre Sauvage, Sir J. Fraser Stoddart and Bernard L. Feringa; in Medicine to Yoshinori Ohsumi; in Literature to Bob Dylan in absentia; and the Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences to Oliver Hart and Bengt Holmström.

After the awards ceremony where music was performed by the Swedish Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the traditional banquet was held in the Stockholm Town Hall’s Blue Hall. The 1,300 guests feasted on langoustine and scallops, quail from Södermanland with vegetables, and a dessert of sudachi fruit and cloudberry sorbet.

Queen Silvia took the sparkle of her Leuchtenberg Sapphire Parure into her dress, which was embellished in silver sequins from top to bottom.

The Crown Princess chose custom H&M for the event, in the form of a single-shouldered light grey-purple gown with a layered skirt and gold foil print across the fabric. Victoria wore the Cut Steel Tiara and necklace and earrings from the Cameo Parure.

Princess Madeleine wore a blush pink evening gown from Fadi el Khoury featuring a voluminous rose-adorned skirt and sheer full-length sleeves. The Connaught Diamond Tiara and a pair of pearl drop earrings completed the look which many classed simply as, Princess.

And finally, bringing some colour to the festivities was Princess Sofia, who donned an unadorned gown from House of Dagmar in a lovely shade of emerald green; which she paired with the smaller Cut Steel Tiara that is usually worn by the Crown Princess.

Tomorrow night, the King will host a dinner for the Nobel laureates.
