Thailand Has A New King After Crown Prince Accepts Throne
Thai Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn became the King of Thailand this evening during a televised ceremony at the Dusit Palace in Bangkok.
“I accept the invitation to be king and to fulfil the royal intentions of the late King for the benefit and happiness of all Thais,” Maha Vajiralongkorn said during the ceremony which was attended by the National Legislative Assembly, who earlier this week officially invited the Prince to succeed the throne.
His regnal name was announced as Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun; he can also be referred to King Rama X, as the tenth King of the Chakri Dynasty.
King Bhumibol Adjuladej died fifty days ago, on October 13.
