Prince Harry Begins Caribbean Tour in Antigua and Barbuda

Kicking off his two week tour of the Caribbean, Prince Harry landed in Antigua and Barbuda on Sunday afternoon, inspecting a military guard of honour at V.C. Bird International Airport before a reception with the Governor-General, Sir Rodney Williams, at Clarence House.

The Prince’s first full day on the island began with by attending the Youth Sports Festival at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium alongside the country’s cricketing legends Sir Vivian Richards, Sir Andy Roberts and Sir Curtly Ambrose. The three men presented Harry with a signed cricket bat, before they showed him around the festival, meeting local school children who were playing the sports most popular in the country. Harry also took the time to play some cricket and volleyball with the kids, who were wearing t-shirts printed with his picture.

Later, Prince Harry headed over to St John’s, the Antiguan capital, where he met with 12 charities under the umbrella of the Halo Foundation that work on the islands at a ‘Colours of Charity’ showcase event at Government House. Harry spent time chatting with young children at the event, blowing bubbles with them, and learning about the charities’ work. He also presented Ineta Wallace with the Order of the British Empire for “services to public health and public administration”.

In the evening, the Prince was guest of honour at a reception hosted by Prime Minister Mr Gaston Browne at Barnacle Point. During his speech, the Prime Minister told Prince Harry that he was “very welcome to come on your honeymoon here” as the Prime Minister believes “we are expecting a new princess soon”. Harry – who confirmed American actress Meghan Markle as his girlfriend two weeks ago – turned bright red.
