Prince William Hosts Centrepoint Gala at Kensington Palace

The Duke of Cambridge this evening hosted Centrepoint’s annual gala at Kensington Palace, with a number of famous faces joining the homeless youth supported by the charity.

In his speech, William praised the efforts of the charity and the youth who have taken up the support available and used it positively: “First and foremost, these young people are ordinary people – like our sons and daughters and friends. The same hopes, the same anxieties, sense of adventure and wanting to find their way in life – but life has dealt them a cruel hand: family breakdown, addiction, the wrong crowd, bullying, poor mental health. The young people of Centrepoint have come through experiences that could have broken the resolve of any one of us.” He also said that society as a whole must do more to help homeless youth.

Prince William then presented the second annual Centrepoint Awards, which celebrate the “success of young people who have experienced homelessness and overcome their difficulties with the charity’s help.”

Singers Ellie Goulding and Craig David provided the evening’s musical entertainment, while an auction saw a range of items, including luxury holidays, go under the hammer with all funds going to the charity.

Earlier in the day, Prince William had dedicated the Kensington Memorial Park as one of the Fields In Trust ‘Centenary Fields’, as well as visited the Willesden New Cemetery to view the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s Living Memory project.
