A Busy Day For Charles and Camilla in Bahrain

The final stop of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall’s Middle East tour is Bahrain, and the couple’s day today was jam-packed with engagements.

Joint engagements made up the morning schedule, with Charles and Camilla visiting the Old Post Office Museum, the Manama Old Souq and the 200-year-old Krishna Temple, events designed to inform them about the country’s history. At the temple, the royal couple were welcomed with traditional scarves and flower garlands, before a tour and meeting with Hindu priests. Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa joined the couple.

Prince Charles then headed to a private audience with the Bahraini Prime Minister, Prince Khalifa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, before a roundtable discussion and visit to the Al-Fateh Grand Mosque for a meeting with members of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs. He also visited the Mina Salman Naval Base.

The Duchess of Cornwall meanwhile visited St Christopher’s School, that bases its style of education around the British system. She met with some of the 2,200 students and saw their music and literacy programs, to which the Duchess donated several books.

Camilla then met up with Queen Sabika bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa for a meeting with the Supreme Council for Women, where she met with a number of Bahraini women who have contributed to society in many ways. One of the women the Duchess was introduced to was the country’s first Paralympic medalist, Rio shotput gold medalist Fatima Nedham.

The purpose of the visit to Bahrain is to mark the 200th anniversary of bilateral relations between the two kingdoms, which was celebrated with a reception in the evening.
