Queen Elizabeth II Opens Multi-Million Pound Francis Crick Institute

London’s £650million Francis Crick Institute, the largest biomedical research centre found in one building in Europe, was today officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duke of York, was given a tour of the Institute, in the process meeting some of the 1,250 plus scientists that work in the state-of-the-art facilities that will research the “prevention, diagnoses and treatment of diseases such as cancer, HIV and malaria”. They were also shown the genome research labs.

They also attended a lecture on research into fighting the flu, to which Prince Philip said to expert Dr Yi Pu Lin that he hadn’t had the flu in 40 years.
