Charles and Camilla’s Second Day In Abu Dhabi

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall have continued their tour of the Middle East today, with a day of engagements in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

First up for Prince Charles was a tour of Bu Tinah Island, seeing the ecosystems and wildlife from a dune buggy and a speedboat. He then visited Masdar City, a region known for it’s “innovation and research dedicated to clean and alternative energy”.

Back in the city, the Duchess was having her own fun, visiting the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital where she was told about the hospital’s work and the importance of falconry to the country, whose national bird is the falcon. She also met with schoolchildren whose study topic is the different aspects of Bedouin culture, and even got to hold a baby owl (holding a falcon was passed on).

The day came to a conclusion with the opening of the UK-UAE Year of Culture held at the historic Al Jahili Fort. The Prince and Duchess were joined by the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for the event where they watched traditional performances and viewed an exhibition of calligraphy artefacts.
