Charles and Camilla Begin Middle East Tour in Oman

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall have begun their week-long tour to the Middle East in Oman today, with a ceremonial welcome in Muscat a definite highlight thanks to some traditional sword dancing.

Prince Charles, never one to shy away from a dance, joined in the traditional Razha dance while his wife watched on, smiling wide as he waved a sword in the air as part of the routine.

It was then on to a tour of the country’s new National Museum for the Prince; while Camilla visited the Dar Al Hanan Hostel operated by the Oman Cancer Association which provides family of children undergoing cancer treatment a place to stay during their time in hospital.  The Duchess also met a number of local business women and entrepreneurs in an event put together to highlight their contribution to Oman’s economy.

In the afternoon, Prince Charles was given a tour of Misfat Al Abriyeen, a mountainous village in the central north of the country. He was shown the older parts of the village, built over 200 years ago. The Prince then visited the Ras Al Shajar Nature Reserve.

Sultan Qaboos, ruler of Oman, hosted the Prince and Duchess in the evening for a dinner.
