Dutch State Visit to Australia: Day 3, Canberra and Sydney

Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima began their third day in Australia today, Wednesday November 2nd, paying a visit to the Australian War Memorial in Camberra. The Royal Couple laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, placed poppies on the wall of remembrance and then met veterans from World War II and the ISAF mission in Afghanistan.

Afterwards the King and the Queen were received at the Parliament House by the Prime Minister of Australia, Malcolm Turnbull, and his wife Lucy, where they signed the Visitor’s Book.

Later, accompanied by the Prime Minister and his wife, the Royal Couple placed sunflowers at the MH17 memorial located in the garden of the Parliament House, built in remembrance of the victims of the plane crash that killed all 283 passengers and 15 crew on board that flight on July 17, 2014.

At lunchtime the King and the Queen were officially welcomed by Sir Peter John Cosgrove, Governor-General of Australia, and his wife Lynne at Government House. After the inspection of the guards there was a private meeting between the Royal Couple, the Governor and his wife, the signing of the Guest Book and then a lunch offered for the King and Queen.

Then King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, along with the Governor and his wife, made a tour in the park of the Government House and were lucky enough to spot some kangaroos who were jumping over the park.

Later today the Royal Couple left Canberra for Sydney. The first event in Sydney was concert offered by the King and the Queen to the Governor-General Cosgrove. At the concert, held at the Sydney Opera House, performed pianist brothers Lucas and Arthur Jussen accompanied by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
