Princess Lalla Salma Honoured For Her Commitment to Fight Cancer In Portugal
Princess Lalla Salma, spouse of King Mohammed VI of Morocco, was honored on Saturday at the third edition of “Bal de la Riviera” gala organized by the Duke of Anjou, Prince Charles Philippe. During the gala, Prince Charles-Philippe handed to Princess Lalla Salma the “Tribute Award” in recognition of her efforts and personal commitment in the fight against cancer in the North African country and beyond.
The distinction was handed to the Moroccan consort in her capacity as Chairwoman of the Lalla Salma Foundation for Cancer Prevention and Treatment. Princess Lalla Salma expressed her satisfaction at the prize, and highlighted the initiatives led by the Lalla Salma Foundation for Cancer Prevention and Treatment as well as the special attention the foundation receives from King Mohammed VI. The foundation that champions the fight against cancer in Morocco and also in some other African countries was set over a decade ago.

Lalla Salma followed an institutional film on the Lalla Salma Foundation, before attending later in the evening an auction with proceeds going to the Foundation.
Lalla Salma had arrived on Friday in Lisbon where she was received by Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa at the Belém Palace, who congratulated her for her excellent work; she also visited the Portuguese Oncology Institute of Lisbon where she attended a presentation given by Francisco Cavaleiro de Ferreira head of Portugal’s league against cancer and visited some children suffering from cancer and wished them swift recovery. On Saturday morning the Princess attended a conference on the challenges of fighting cancer in the 21st century held at the Paula Rego Museum in Cascais.
