A Visit From A Duchess To Mark Swindon175 Celebrations
The Duchess of Cornwall paid a visit to the town of Swindon today to help commemorate the 175th anniversary of the town’s modern development.
Her day began at Swindon Station, where she arrived on a Great Western Railway train, which had their workshops built in Swindon in 1841. Outside the Station, Camilla unveiled a plaque to mark the new name of the area outside which is now named after Sir Daniel Gooch who was instrumental in bringing the GWR to Swindon.
After greeting a number of local schoolchildren who had turned out for the renaming, the Duchess headed over to the Civic Offices to see plans about the £750 million future regeneration of the town.
The Duchess – who made it easy to be spotted in a purple tartan coat dress – even took the time to congratulate a newlywed couple as they left the registry office as she was passing.
