Danes Host Reception For Olympic and Paralympic Teams
Over 200 members of Team Denmark that competed at the 2016 Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games have been guests at a reception hosted by Queen Margrethe II at Christiansborg Palace.
The team – whose athletes won 15 Olympic and 7 Paralympic medals in Rio – were also congratulated by Crown Princess Mary, Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, and Princess Benedikte.

Crown Prince Frederik had also been scheduled to attend, however, he fractured his cervical spine yesterday during a trampolining accident at a gymnasium with Prince Christian. He is required to wear a cervical collar for twelve weeks to help heal the injury.
The Queen made a little joke at her son’s expense during her speech at the reception, saying that Frederik was sorry he couldn’t be there, but “when you jump on a trampoline when you are almost 50, then maybe it is not so strange that it goes wrong,” which got a chuckle out of the room.
