Thailand’s King Bhumbiol Adulyadej Has Died, Palace Confirms
It has been confirmed this evening, local time, that King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand has passed away at the age of 88. He was monarch for 70 years, having celebrated the milestone in June this year, and was the world’s longest reigning monarch.
The late King’s health has been of major concern this past week, after a statement said that the King was on a ventilator after his blood pressure dropped during haemodialysis treatment over the weekend. A statement released on Wednesday said that the King also had infections on his liver.
Members of his immediate family were seen visiting Bangkok’s Siriraj Hospital yesterday, while the Prime Minister returned to the capital after cancelling a planned trip.
His only son, Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn, is expected to have taken the throne.
