Belgian State Visit to Japan: Day 2
Today Tuesday October 11, second day of the state visit, Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde were officially welcomed by the Japanese Imperial Family.
The welcoming ceremony was held in the courtyard of the Imperial Palace in the presence of Emperor Akihito, Empress Michiko, Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako. After the inspection of the guards and the playing of the national anthems, a private meeting took place inside the palace.

The day continued with separate activities for the Royal Couple. King Philippe had various business meetings with members of the Japanese and Belgian business federations and then a lunch was held at the Belgian Embassy at the presence of the King and CEOs of leading Japanese companies.
In the meantime Queen Mathilde began her activities with a visit at the Toho Gakuen School of Music where she listened to musical performances of the students and met some participants of the Queen Elisabeth Competition.

Later the Queen attended at a conference entitled “Women in society” about women’s empowerment. Afterwards Queen Mathilde was present at the signing of an agreement between La Cambre-Mode[s], one of Belgium’s leading schools of art and design, L’Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts d’Anvers and the Bunka Gakuen University, a private University.

In the evening the Emperor Akihito hosted a State Banquet in honor of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde. In his speech the King thanked the Emperor and the Empress for the warm weolcome and remembered his previous official trips to Japan.
