King Philippe and Queen Mathilde Start Their State Visit to Japan

Following the invitation of the Emperor of Japan, Akihito, and to celebrate the 150th year of diplomatic relations between Japan and Belgium, Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde have begun today, Monday October 10, a State Visit to Japan.

After fifteen hours of flight with stopovers in Ekaterinburg (Russia) and Ulan Bator (Mongolia), the Royal Couple arrived early this morning at the Haneda Airport in Tokyo. They are accompanied by a large delegations of business leaders, members of the cultural and academy worlds and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Didier Reynders.

On their first day the King and the Queen visitied the Nezu Shrine, one of the oldest Shinto shrine worship places established in 1705.

In the evening took place a reception held at the Belgium Embassy with the Belgian community living in Japan.
