A Royal Wedding in Tirana as Prince Leka Marries Long-Time Love
The Head of the House of Zogu, Crown Prince Leka II of Albania, married his fiancee of many years, Elia Zahari, in a civil ceremony at the Royal Palace in Tirana today.
Conducting the ceremony was the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, before leaders from Albania’s religious communities provided blessings to Leka and Elia as per tradition to promote religious tolerance and harmony within the country.
The bride wore a silk and lace embroidered wedding gown with beading around the bodice and hem, with the diamond and sapphire tiara – unique for its inclusion of a ram’s head, the symbol of Albania – originally belonging to her new husband’s grandmother, Queen Geraldine.
Following the ceremony, Prince Leka and Princess Elia hosted a reception at the Palace for their guests; which included Queen Sofia of Spain and her sister Princess Irene of Greece, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, Princess Lalla Meryem of Morocco, Prince Guillaume and Princess Sibilla of Luxembourg, Empress Farah Pahlavi, Crown Princess Margareta and Prince Radu of Romania, Prince Georg Friedrich of Prussia, Princess Gloria of Thurn und Taxis and her daughter Princess Elisabeth.
