Brunei’s Queen Saleha Celebrates Seventieth Birthday

Queen Saleha of Brunei today turns seventy years old. She was born in 1946 as one of six children born to Pengiran Anak Abdul Rahman, Speaker of the Brunei Legislative Council, and his wife Pengiran Anak Hajah Besar.

She married the-then Crown Prince of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, in July 1965. The pair are first cousins. They have six children: Princess Rashidah, Princess Muta-Wakkilah, Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah, Princess Majeedah, Princess Hafizah and Prince ‘Abdul Malik.

Saleha has been the Queen Consort of Brunei since October 1967, when her husband became the Sultan of Brunei.
