Prince Charles Visits Grandmother’s Grave While In Israel
While the Prince of Wales was in Israel on Friday to attend the funeral of the late former President Shimon Peres, he also made a visit of a personal nature – to the grave of his paternal grandmother, Princess Andrew of Greece and Denmark.
The Princess, who was born Princess Alice of Battenberg, is buried at the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. Her wish to be buried there nearby her aunt, Grand Duchess Elizabeta Feodorovna of Russia, was fulfilled in 1988, 19 years after she had died.
Prince Charles laid a bouquet of flowers from his Birkhall estate in Scotland on his grandmother’s grave, before also visiting the grave of the Grand Duchess.
