The Cambridges On Tour: Canada, Day Two

On their first full day in Canada, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took a seaplane from Victoria to Vancouver for several engagements in the city.

Their first event was a visit to the Sheway Pregnancy Outreach Program which provides support to pregnant women and new mothers who are or have battled addiction. William and Kate spent time hearing the stories of some of the women Sheway has assisted before sharing tea and scones.

The couple then moved on to the huge new Immigrant Services Society of BC Welcome Centre where they were joined by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau for an information session on the services the centre provides to the thousands of immigrants and refugees that arrive in British Columbia each year.

Kate received a large bouquet of flowers from a young girl during their visit to the centre, where they also heard from refugees from Syria and Afghanistan about their new lives in Canada.

After a reception for young Canadians at TELUS Gardens, where Prince William posed for photos with members of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic teams (the women’s rugby team poked a little fun at the Duke as they defeated Great Britain to win bronze), the Cambridges and the Trudeaus headed over to the Kitsilano Coast Guard Station where they met with first responders and were given demonstrations of various techniques used. They also discussed how the mental health of the first responders is affected by their jobs.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte – who stayed behind in Victoria – came away with several gifts from the day: teddy bears, large stuffed dalmatians, books and mini life-jackets.

For the second day, Kate donned a red and white patterned Alexander McQueen frock with a high neckline, and an intricate pleated, tiered skirt. A pair of red pumps and matching clutch finished the outfit.
