Crown Prince Frederik Visits Danish Troops in Mali

Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik has this week visited Danish troops which are part of the 15,000-strong United Nations peace keeping mission in Mali.

Accompanied by the Danish Defence Minister for the two-day trip on September 22 and 23, Frederik met with Major General Michael Lollesgaard of Denmark who has led the mission since March 2015, as well as Danish personnel on the ground working in the intelligence unit in Bamako. The Crown Prince was informed about current tasks of the mission, as well as increased threats from Islamist terrorist groups.

He also met with Danish Special Forces in Gao, and police working the region.

The purpose of the mission, officially titled the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali, is to help achieve stability in the West African nation and protect its civilians from insurgents.
