A Busy Day for Queen Máxima

As Honorary Chair of the platform Money Wise, Her Majesty Queen Máxima this morning, Tuesday September 13, visited the ROC van Amsterdam, a secondary vocational college situated in Amstelveen, near Amsterdam. The Queen was accompanied by Sander Dekker, State Secretary for Education, Culture and Science.

Along with the students, Queen Máxima participated in two lessons focused on insurance. These lessons, called “Money Ways”, are organized by the Association of Insurers with the help of National Institute for Budget Information (Nibud) and the Agency for social innovation Diversion. “Money Ways” is a program for vocational students that aims to help young people to learn more about how to deal with money and everything about it and be more responsable. This program has already reached 14,000 students.

After debating with the students, the Queen attended a roundtable meeting along with the State Secretary, researchers, teachers and students about the relationship between debt and school and the benefits of financial education. Money Wise is an initiative of the Ministry of Finance that promotes a responsible financial behavior in the Netherlands.

Later today Queen Máxima paid a working visit the Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) of the Ministry of Defence in Soesterberg where is located the Royal Netherlands Air Force Military Air Base. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) detects, identifies and cleans explosives, it is used in the Netherlands to clear explosives from the Second World War and also in missions abroad.

During the visit the Queen spoke with trainers and instructors that showed to her the equipment used by the EOD in making harmless and detonation of explosives and she was informed about the methods. Queen Máxima also detonated an explosive with the help of the professional team.
