Countess Gunnilla Bernadotte af Wisborg Has Died
The Swedish Royal Court has announced that Countess Gunnilla Bernadotte af Wisborg, aunt of both King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, has passed away at the age of 93.
“The Countess was a very much appreciated, close and faithful friend of our family and leaves us in great loss,” a statement from the King said. The Countess passed away yesterday evening, September 12.
Countess Gunnilla was the second wife of Count Carl Johan Bernadotte af Wisborg, who was born Prince Carl Johan as a son of King Gustaf VI Adolf and Princess Margaret of Connaught. They had married in September 1988, and were present at many royal events over the years.
Gunnilla was born in May 1923 in Stockholm to Count Nils Wachtmeister af Johannishus and Baroness Märta de Geer af Leufsta. She had firstly been married to director Carl-Herman Bussler, from 1942 until his 1981 death, with whom she had three children: Louise, Madeleine and Fred.
