Princess Mako On Official Visit to Paraguay
Princess Mako of Akishino is representing her grandfather, the Emperor of Japan, in Paraguay this week, as the two countries mark 80 years of immigration and bilateral relations.
She attended a ceremony today alongside President Horacio Cartes and the Japanese Ambassador to Paraguay, Takeshi Kamitami, in Luque to celebrate the anniversary. A group of farmers were the first immigrants from Japan to Paraguay in 1936.
The Princess delivered a speech at the ceremony, in which she said she hopes the two nations “will deepen mutual understanding and exchanges built on the efforts of forerunners, and that their spirits will be inherited by future generations.”
