A Royal Christening At Drottningholm

Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia have today christened their son, Prince Alexander, in a ceremony attending by close family and friends at the Drottningholm Palace Chapel.

The service was conducted by Archbishop Antje Jackelén, Chief Court Chaplain Bishop Johan Dalman and Pastor of the Royal Court Parish Michael Bjerkhagen. Prayers, readings by three of the couple’s siblings (Crown Princess Victoria, Lina Frejd and Sara Hellqvist) and music from the Stockholm Boy’s Choir made up the service, before Prince Alexander was officially christened with water from Oland and given the Order of the Seraphim by his grandfather, King Carl Gustaf.

As per the latest tradition at Swedish royal events, it was the youngest Bernadottes who provided all the entertainment – Princess Leonore again played with her miniature toys while she and her brother Prince Nicolas were somewhat kept quiet with raisins, while cute moments were had between Prince Alexander and Prince Oscar as they laughed and played with each other from their mothers’ laps.

Following the conclusion of the formalities, the royal party and guests made their way back to the Palace, where the family posed for photographs on the stairs before heading inside for the reception.

All the royal ladies kept their outfits simple for the event: Princess Sofia wore a white lace skirt and blouse from Ida Sjöstedt, the designer who made her wedding gown, paired with a pearl headband. The Queen went for a lilac outfit with floral ascents around the neckline, with a matching headpiece.

Crown Princess Victoria opted for a lovely salmon pink lace dress by Elie Saab, which when matched with her simple headpiece gave off a very retro feeling (Princess Estelle’s dress matched her mother’s). Princess Madeleine chose a floral Erdem dress and a navy blue headpiece at the back of her chignon, while Princess Leonore wore a mint green dress with a fluffy skirt and a cream bow in her hair.
