A Busy London Day For Charles and Camilla
The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall had a busy day in London today, beginning with a celebration of the Royal Mail, which is marking 500 years of service this year.
Attending the reception at Merchant Taylor’s Hall, Charles and Camilla unveiled a green replica Penfold postbox, after the Prince delivered a speech that decried the explosion of Twitter usage, saying that “In these days of texting and various social media apps, the well-constructed sentence is under mortal threat!” He described himself as someone who “relishes” receiving letters. They also cut a beautifully decorated cake as they mingled with long-serving postal workers.
Later in the afternoon, the couple also hosted a tea for Battle of Britain veterans at Clarence House. The Prince is the patron of The Battle of Britain Fighter Association.
Prince Charles in the morning had a solo engagement where he joined children whose parents are soldiers at Wellington Barracks in sowing wildflower seeds in Green Park as part of his Coronation Meadows project, which aims to plant a wildflower meadow in each county of Britain to mark the 60th anniversary Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation.
Several joggers and passersby were seen to stop and do a double-take as they passed the Prince during his time in the park, to ensure that yes, that was the Prince of Wales we just jogged passed.
