Buena Suerte! Spain’s King and Queen See Athletes Off To Rio
The Spanish Olympic Team received a royal farewell as they departed for Rio de Janeiro today, with King Felipe and Queen Letizia heading up the farewell committee at the Adolfo Suarez Airport in Madrid.
After speaking with the athletes and taking several selfies, King Felipe briefly addressed the team, saying that the whole of Spain was “convinced of your abilities in competition, but also your human qualities. When you are in Rio, you can be sure that … we will follow with great interest and attention, being glued to the TV, the radio, the tablet or whatever it takes. You will be during these weeks, the illusion of Spanish society.”
305 athletes will be representing Spain at the Rio Olympic Games, which begin on August 5.
