Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit Remember July 22 Victims Five Years On

A series of remembrance services were held in Norway today honouring the 77 victims of the July 22 attacks in Oslo and on the island of Utøya five years on from the deadliest attack in Norway since the Second World War.

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit were present at a wreath laying in the government quarter (where 8 of the victims were killed in a bomb blast) alongside Prime Minister Erna Solberg, before attending a service at Olso Cathedral.

In the afternoon, the Crown Prince made the trip to Utøya, where he toured the new Hegnhuset learning centre that has been built around the island’s cafe were 13 more victims were gunned down (69 in total died on the island during a summer camp arranged by the youth division of the Labor Party). He and Prime Minister Solberg laid white roses at the ‘Lysninga’ or ‘Ringen’, a ring a steel bearing the names and ages of most victims hanging between the trees.
