Crown Prince Naruhito, Crown Princess Masako and Princess Aiko of Japan have paid homage to Japan’s first Emperor, Jimmu, at his shrine in Kashihara, Nara Prefecture.

Dressed in formal attire, the family bowed deeply to Emperor Jimmu’s – who died 2,600 years ago – shrine during the worship, in which they offered tree branches to the shrine. This was 14-year-old Princess Aiko’s first visit to the shrine, according to Asahi.

They had earlier arrived by train to Kashihara.
