Twos A Charm! Kate and Mary Make Their Ascot Debuts
We were treated to a right royal show at Ascot today with the debut appearance of not only the Duchess of Cambridge but also Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. As guests – we believe – of the Earl and Countess of Wessex, who have known the couple for over 10 years, Mary and her husband Crown Prince Frederik enjoyed a seat in the second carriage and dinner at Windsor castle with The Queen.
As ever, fashion was on point with Catherine teaming a Dolce and Gabbana dress with a Jane Taylor hat, Crown Princess Mary wearing Marc Jacobs with a Jane Taylor hat; while the Countess of Wessex stuck to Emilia Wickstead and, again, Jane Taylor.
All parties chatted harmoniously with one another in the parade ring, Catherine was seen greeting Edward Van Cutsem whose late father Hugh was a godparent to William. The Queen greeted the Emir of Dubai and Princess Haya of Jordan in the royal box.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge went on to present the prize for The Duke of Cambridge stakes which was renamed for him in 2013. This is their first appearance at Ascot, but Catherine has been to several horse events including numerous polo occasions.
Tomorrow we have the delights of seeing one of Her Majesty’s own horses, Dartmouth, run in the Hardwicke Stakes.
