Oh This Old Thing…

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were honorary guests at the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland’s Garden Party at Hillsborough Castle today. Last year royal guests were The Earl and Countess of Wessex and the year before Her Majesty and The Duke of Edinburgh attended.

Arriving in County Down after signing the book of condolence for the victims in Orlando, the couple were greeted to beautiful sunshine.

Catherine chose to wear a cream brocade coat by DAY Birger et Mikkelsen, and a rose shaped fascinator by Lock&Co. Catherine helped plant a tree in the Castle gardens to mark the beginning of the Garden Party.

In keeping with the location of the garden party the Duchess wore a golden shamrock brooch that was presented to her as a wedding gift from the Irish Guards.

Upon their arrival this afternoon the royal couple met First Minister Arlene Foster, at the event which saw guests invited by Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Theresa Villiers.

Attendees were drawn from a wide cross-section of Northern Ireland society, including the voluntary and community sectors, local charities and youth organisations.

The couple then made their way to the gardens where they chatted with guests. As the weather clouded over the Duchess joined members of the Irish and Scottish military where she was seen deep in conversation.
